PINNACLE Initiative Launches

ome might argue that you do not tamper with a classic, but we think that there’s nothing wrong with a group of talented designers breathing new life and form into the original NO-FUR icon, and drawing much-needed attention to the message behind it. You are a creative geius who is about change an industry, and we thank you in advance.

WHAT & WHY:

Long before the Lindsay Lohan was doused in flour for flaunting a fur frock—the original anti-fur accessory was a pin designed in the 1970’s with the message “Real People Wear Fake Fur”. But even as early as the 1920s, when raccoon fur coats were all the rage, Broadway starlet Minnie Maddern Fiske took up vocal opposition to fur on behalf of animals trapped or farmed for their pelts.

The pin is iconic; almost as recognizable as Milton Glaser’s I ♥ NY logo. And that’s why we love it! But what if we can spread the message even further by having designers like you reinvent the icon and contribute to a collection of new anti-fur accessories?

WHO:

Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), the legendary artist Peter Max, John Bartlett, Stella McCartney, and Victoria Bartlett are among those who are already lending their efforts to this project. Many renowned names will follow. Joshua Katcher, founder of The Discerning Brute initiated PINNACLE in 2010, and has been reaching out to a select group of fashion designers and other creatives to make this initiative successful.

“In our time of worldly awareness, we can do better, by not torturing just for a coat. PINNACLE is a great way to show your heart, and make a statement with fashion.” – Karolina Karolina Babnczynska, Ford Models“

“In our time of worldly awareness, we can do better, by not torturing just for a coat. PINNACLE is a great way to show your heart, and make a statement with fashion.” – Karolina Karolina Babnczynska, Ford Models“
I am a lover of life…there is no true need for animals to be bred for the sake of their  fur, for the sake of fashion. These little pins can bring awareness. These little pins are  a sign of compassion, of respect, and love of the life that surrounds each and every one  of us.” — Adam Erick Wallace, Ford Models

HOW:

Help PINNACLE become the radix for a potent and fashionable stand against the dark forces of the fur industry, and in the process, we’ll all get closer to our ultimate goal: ending the unspeakable horrors that fur-bearing animals endure, inherent in fur production.

It’s simple: you design a killer pin or accessory. It can be one-off, or something that goes into production. Whether you use metal studs, wood, Swarovski crystals, faux-leather, or printed graphics, this is an opportunity to really make the anti-fur message desirable, wearable, and powerful:

Design a pin (or any accessory) incorporating the anti-fur message in any way you see fit, for men or women. (obviously, don’t use any animal-derived products to make it).
Capture an image of the pin/accessory on a model or by itself, with an editorial story, or as one image.
Make pins available to consumers on your website or in your store – or just make one as an art object / statement piece to look at!
Send your content, along with an image of yourself and a statement expressing your anti-fur position, to Design@ReinventTheicon.com

We will follow through with press, as the main objective is for PINNACLE to get the press talking about you and your participation! ReinventTheicon.com is underway and will be dedicated to showcasing your creation, and a link back to where it can be purchased. You can make your design available to customers however you see fit.
